In 2019 we commence our 80th year - a very different society from the one started in 1939 under the 'dig for victory' campaign. Our aims and values are probably much the same as in 1939 but our way of life has changed completely though we still endeavor to enjoy our gardens and allotments. Thanks to the hard work of your committee and the other helpers on Sunday mornings, last year was pretty successful, the bank balance remains healthy, which enables us to carry on. We continue to be a non profit-making society, but we do have to make a small surplus that allows us to pay our rent for the sheds etc. Any profits we do make are used to help reduce the costs of the goods we sell, which will always be competitive. I do urge you to attend the AGM in April and have some input into how the society is run. The committee have decided to discontinue the 10% discount on the first purchase of the season. Discounts will be channelled into the pricing of our stock, particularly plants. We will have more shrubs for sale but if there are particular plants you require, please ask and we will try to get them.
Two of the trips last year were very successful, only the Wisley trip was poorly supported, probably because it clashed with the royal wedding and the cup final! We shall be returning to Wisley again this year: it is the best value of all our trips and is undergoing a massive upgrade, much of which is now complete, and it will be well worth seeing.
As last year, we shall be providing free tea and coffee on Sundays and we are all waiting to see what surprises Ray has in store for us in the cake line.
We could do with more help on Sunday mornings - it doesn't have to be every week - one week a month or a couple of hours early or late would be helpful. Give me a call or see me on Sundays, phone numbers below.
